What The Cast Of The Gentlemen Have Said About Meghan Markle's Rumored Acting Return

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex have officially returned to the U.K. However, it's been confirmed via King Charles III that the Sussexes have not returned to being working royals. Without the requirements of a busy royal schedule, that could theoretically leave Meghan time to dust off her acting skills and get to work. There's been talk that she would act again after the U.K. move by joining Season 3 of Guy Ritchie's Netflix series "The Gentlemen." During the press tour for Season 2 of the show in September 2026, some of the stars were asked about the speculation that Meghan might step into the cast.

"The Gentlemen" stars Theo James as Eddie Horniman, who unexpectedly inherits a dukedom, estate, and drug empire. When James got questions about Meghan from Entertainment Tonight at the premiere for Season 2 of "The Gentlemen," he was full of jokes and denials. He first quipped that she was with them on the red carpet, and said, "She'll fit in well because she's actually from, you know, part of the royal family." James then pivoted to joke that it wasn't Meghan, but instead her husband who'd make an appearance. "Prince Harry is in it; he's playing ... one of my love interests," he joked. But he acknowledged to Entertainment Tonight: "I think it's furious rumors. I think the practicalities of that are impossible."

It's similar to how he responded when he was asked about it by Town & Country. Though that time, instead of Prince Harry or Meghan, he said: "Yes, Fergie [Sarah Ferguson] is joining. She'll be playing my love interest." On the idea that Meghan would be in the show, James told the outlet, "No, I think that was mainly a lot of hot air."

Kaya Scodelario, who you might recognize from the cast of the English show "Skins," plays a crime boss on "The Gentlemen" who works with Theo James' character. When the topic of Meghan Markle possibly making an appearance on the show came up during a "Today" interview, Scodelario tiptoed around the answer: "I, unfortunately, have no decision-making abilities. I wish I did." She didn't seem entirely opposed to the idea. "We get these great guest actors come in, sprinkle a little bit of their magic into the characters, and make really memorable scenes out of them ... the more the merrier," she explained.

In August 2026, at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Netflix's scripted chief in the U.K., Manda Levin, had four mysterious words about Meghan possibly making it on the show that didn't entirely count her out: "All bets are off" (via People). At the premiere in September, one of the executive producers and writers, Matthew Read, said, "I just don't think it's right to speculate at this stage, so I wouldn't like to say yes or no," per BBC. But given the cast response, it seems like we won't be seeing Meghan join the team at "The Gentlemen."

However, it could be that she'll return to screens at some point as there have been times that Meghan has hinted she misses acting since joining the royal family. It's not something she's been able to do for awhile; her last appearance on "Suits" was the Season 7 finale in 2018. After getting married, Meghan's on-screen appearances have been as herself on a couple of Netflix projects: "With Love, Meghan," her lifestyle show, and "Harry & Meghan," in which the couple revealed behind-the-scenes glimpses into their relationship and move to California in 2020.
