British Royal Family Members, Ranked By Their Reported Wealth

Between the likes of King Charles III and Princess Catherine, the royal family is, undeniably, made up of some of the most famous faces in the world. But, as recognizable as the British monarchy is, they aren't the richest. In fact, some of the wealthiest royals in the world aren't in the British monarchy at all. And, surprisingly, one of the richest royal families is one that no one even talks about.

Although there are signs the British royal family is losing money, they still have a lot of dough in the bank. Like, a lot. In addition to the impressive salary that senior working royals such as Prince William and Princess Anne receive for carrying out their duties, they also earn masses of money through the private estates they own. For non-working royals, including Meghan Markle and Zara Tindall, lucrative brand deals are a major source of income, too. After all, being associated with the royal family, even if you're not working for it, sure can have its monetary perks. With that in mind, here's how much each member of the royal family is really worth, ranking their reported wealth from lowest to highest.

Prince George: $500,000

With an estimated net worth of $500,000, according to Celebrity Net Worth, Prince George is certainly richer than most children his age. But is that surprising? The adolescent royal is second in line to the British throne, so it is more than fair to expect the future monarch to already be sitting on some serious money, despite his youth.

As for where George's net worth comes from? Considering he's thus far never worked a day in his life — in his defense, he's been busy attending school — that has perhaps come from inheritance. However, there's no official confirmation of this. One thing is for certain, though: George will get a lot richer. When Prince William ascends to the throne, he'll pass the Duchy of Cornwall (which is big, big money) onto his eldest son. More on that to come later...

Princess Beatrice: $1 million

Although she's pretty high up in the line of succession, Princess Beatrice is not — and never has been — a working royal. Instead, she's maintained several full-time jobs, which is possibly why her estimated net worth is a little more modest than some of the other royals on this list. Per Celebrity Net Worth, Beatrice's net worth sits at $1 million. So, where did it come from?

Before she'd even graduated from school and entered the working world, Beatrice came into a hefty sum when her parents divorced in the '90s. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson's divorce settlement stipulated that the then-Duchess of York and her daughters received money (totaling in the millions) from the royal family. On top of that, Beatrice also got an inheritance from the Queen Mother, who was, of course, her great-grandmother.

Beyond funds from the royal family, Beatrice has also tallied up some of her net worth through work. After graduating from Goldsmiths College in her 20s, Beatrice did a few internships before landing roles at companies including Sony Pictures and Afiniti, where she was Vice President of Strategic Partnerships.

Princess Eugenie: $1 million

Like her sister, Princess Eugenie is estimated to be worth about $1 million, per Celebrity Net Worth. Much like Princess Beatrice, Eugenie benefited financially from her parents' divorce. She also received a cut of the same inheritance from her great-grandmother, who passed away in 2002.

As for the rest of Eugenie's wealth? Well, it certainly doesn't come from being a royal. While Eugenie does make the occasional appearance with the rest of her family at big events or on the Buckingham Palace balcony, she is not a working royal and, as such, does not receive a salary from the Sovereign Grant. She does, however, have a job. In fact, Eugenie has been at the same company for more than a decade, working as a director at a contemporary art gallery.

In addition to sitting on pretty sizable incomes, both Eugenie and her sister Beatrice are heavily involved in charitable work, too. They were forced to step back from some roles due to the scandal involving their father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, but the York sisters continue with many philanthropic efforts. "I think that value system of giving back has always stayed with them," Eugenie and Beatrice's mom, Sarah Ferguson, previously told People of their charitable endeavors.

Sarah Ferguson: $2 million

Speaking of Sarah Ferguson, she also has a sizable amount of money behind her. According to Celebrity Net Worth, the former Duchess of York's reported wealth is $2 million. Not bad for someone who was evicted from her royal home, right?

Ferguson's wealth can be attributed in part to her royal connections, but also her work as an author. In addition to the multi-million dollar settlement she received in her divorce from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (which included enough to buy a home and put money into a trust for her daughters), she received an annual stipend from the royals. On top of that, Ferguson earned money through several books. Notably, The Mirror reported that the ex-duchess got an advance of £800,000 (approximately $1 million) for her 1996 autobiography, "My Story."

Nonetheless, Ferguson has faced money troubles over the years, even ending up in serious debt in the '90s and beyond. More recently, six companies at which Ferguson was a director have gone out of business.

Queen Camilla: $5 million

Unlike the previous queen (who was estimated to have been worth $600 million at the time of her passing, per Celebrity Net Worth), Queen Camilla is sitting on a much smaller $5 million. Surprisingly, much of that figure, as reported by Celebrity Net Worth, has little to do with the royal family. In fact, Camilla was already wealthy before she married into the monarchy in 2005.

For context, Queen Camilla came from a wealthy family herself. Her father was a successful businessman, while her mother's side of the family was made up of British aristocrats. Combine those two things, and you get a pretty decent inheritance.

Camilla is also thought to have had quite the windfall in her divorce from Andrew Parker-Bowles. The evidence? Well, following their divorce in 1995, she swiftly purchased a lavish countryside home (worth £850,000/$1.1 million, per The Mirror). That said, the pair's exact settlement sum has never been revealed.

Prince Edward: $10 million

Although he doesn't have anywhere near as much money as some of Queen Elizabeth II's other kids (more on that to come), Prince Edward still is worth $10 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Much of that wealth, it seems, has come from his time as a senior working royal, which The Guardian totals at around £6.5 million (over $8 million) in earnings since 1982. That might seem like a lot of money for showing up and cutting some ribbons, but the outlet also placed Edward's yearly engagement average at 351 — which is nothing to sneeze it.

In addition to the wealth he's received from being a working royal, Edward's property portfolio has boosted his net worth. The Guardian reports that Bagshot Park, the 21-hectare estate he lives on, courtesy of a Crown Estate lease dating back to 1998, has racked up hundreds of thousands in income. How? Well, the property's stables alone have been let out for quite the hefty sum.

Passive income aside, Edward previously held positions at private companies. After graduating from Cambridge University in the 1980s, the prince had a brief career in the entertainment industry. He took a job as a production assistant at a theater company, and later transitioned into TV. His production dreams weren't too fruitful, though, as the Ardent Productions company he founded reportedly dissolved with assets worth next to nothing. You win some, you lose some, eh Edward?

Peter Phillips: $20 million

Despite being one of Queen Elizabeth II's grandchildren, Peter Phillips doesn't carry an official title, nor is he a working royal. Nonetheless, Princess Anne's son still has an enviable net worth, totaling $20 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Unlike some of his relatives who carry out royal engagements for their salary, Phillips has instead forged a career as a businessman, working in sports management, corporate hospitality, and entertainment sponsorship. After graduating from university, he spent the first 11 years of his worklife in Formula One at Stewart Grand Prix. From there, he worked with other big-name brands including Jaguar and The Royal Bank of Scotland.

With such an impressive resume, perhaps it's no wonder that Phillips co-founded his own company. In 2012, he set up Sports & Entertainment UK Ltd, with friend and long-time mentor, James Erskine. He's still at the company today, holding the position of managing director — which no doubt comes with a multi-figure salary.

Zara Tindall: $20 million

Like her brother, Peter Phillips, Zara Tindall is not a working royal, nor does she have an official title. That said, she still is believed to be worth $20 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. As it turns out then, not being a working royal comes with its own benefits. Those being: more freedom to pursue lucrative careers and brand sponsorships. So, what lucrative decisions have helped Tindall rack up such a significant amount of money?

Much like her mother, Princess Anne, Tindall competed as an equestrian for decades, including at the 2012 London Olympics. Although many of her accomplishments in this field don't earn her money, Tindall's sporting success helped her become a director at Cheltenham Racecourse. Tindall's impressive equestrian career also resulted in an array of brand sponsorship deals with luxury brands including Land Rover and Rolex. Now, if you think about how much a Rolex costs to buy, imagine how much you'd earn starring in an advert for them.

Princess Catherine: $50 million

Princess Catherine will one day be queen — but she had money in the bank long before marrying into the royal family. Celebrity Net Worth estimates Catherine's net worth to be around $50 million and, while a lot of this is tied to her royal kudos, a big portion has come from the Middletons' wealth. Not only are Catherine's parents owners of a successful party business (worth millions, FYI), but generations of the Middleton family have benefited from centuries-old trust funds, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Beyond the wealth she has acquired by simply being a Middleton, Catherine essentially won the lottery by marrying Prince William. In addition to the inheritance he received (and shared with Prince Harry) following his mother's tragic death, the Prince of Wales has access to the Duchy of Cornwall (see: a portfolio of investments with assets totaling more than a billion). Further still, Catherine gets paid for being a royal. As a senior working royal, she's obliged to attend official engagements on behalf of the monarchy, and is paid via the Sovereign Grant for doing so.

Meghan Markle: $60 million

In 2020 Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped back from life as working royals and moved to California. Although they've since returned to the U.K., their time in the States was certainly lucrative — which is why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a combined net worth of $60 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

As even the most casual of royal watchers knows, the duchess had a successful acting career before marrying into the royal family. Celebrity Net Worth estimates she had already raked in roughly $5 million through her on-screen endeavors, such as her seven-series stint as Rachel Zane on "Suits". According to Business Insider, the duchess also made around $80,000 a year from sponsorships and endorsement deals on her lifestyle blog, The Tig. After her marriage to Harry, however, her wealth grew exponentially.

In addition to the millions he brought to their nuptials (in part from the inheritance he received from his late mother) the duke and duchess signed major deals with the likes of Netflix and Spotify. TV series and podcasts aside, the duchess also has her own food and lifestyle brand. As Ever sells everything from luxury jams to scented candles and the brand has almost a million followers on Instagram — so it's clearly very popular.

Prince Harry: $60 million

As mentioned, Celebrity Net Worth places Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's combined net worth at $60 million. Some of his share came from a hefty inheritance left by the late Princess Diana. "I've got what my mum left me and without that, we wouldn't have been able to do this," Harry told Oprah Winfrey (via The Independent) in March 2021 of his and his wife's decision to depart royal life. Seemingly, that was not the only financial windfall Harry received. The Times reported that on his 40th birthday, the Duke of Sussex inherited roughly $10.5 million from a trust fund set up by the Queen Mother.

Beyond inheritance, how else has Harry built up such a fortune? Well, it's not much in the grand scheme of things, but the royal earned about $50,000 a year from his job as a captain in the British Army, according to Business Insider. And, prior to their decision to step back from royal life and find financial independence, the Sussexes noted on their website that the large majority of their income came from the likes of the Sovereign Grant and the Duchy of Cornwall.

Once the Sussexes were no longer in the royal fold, they looked to outside sources for their income, accepting deals with the aforementioned streaming platforms. Further still, Harry is understood to have made a lot of money through his 2023 memoir, "Spare." Per The Express, the duke pocketed $27 million from the bombshell book, which became the UK's fastest-selling non-fiction book ever. As if that wasn't enough, Harry's net worth could grow even more, if he inherits these things from King Charles III after he dies.

Princess Anne: $70 million

Princess Anne is the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and one of the hardest-working senior royals. Per The Guardian, Anne has carried out more than 11,000 official appearances over the last few decades, which is more than any other living royal. For that, she has been paid in the millions — but that fee only makes up a tiny amount of her impressive net worth, which is valued at $70 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Instead, Anne's personal fortune is predominantly derived from Gatcombe Park. Anne's mother purchased the Gloucestershire estate for her in 1976 as a wedding gift following her marriage to Captain Mark Phillips. At the time, it was reportedly priced at less than a million, which is an absolute bargain, considering you'll find a Grade II-listed country house, farmland, equestrian facilities, multiple residences, and more on the more than 700 acre Cotswolds estate.

Nowadays, the estate is — unsurprisingly — worth considerably more. Celebrity Net Worth notes it could fetch $25 million to $35 million on the open market, if Anne were to ever sell it. With all this in mind, perhaps it's no wonder that Princess Anne lives an extremely lavish life ... and has no plans to part with her beloved Gatcombe Park.

Prince William: $140 million

As the future king, you'd assume Prince William is sitting on a sizable bank balance. And, you'd be correct. Per Celebrity Net Worth, the Prince of Wales has a very impressive net worth of $140 million, but it's only since his father ascended to the throne that this figure is so eye-wateringly high. While William did inherit a fair bit from Princess Diana, it wasn't until he became the Duke of Cornwall that his net worth sky-rocketed.

The Duke of Cornwall is a royal title held by the eldest surviving son of the sovereign and the heir to the throne. Until Queen Elizabeth II's passing in 2022, the title was held by the now-King Charles III and, when William eventually sits on the throne, it'll be handed over to Prince George. In addition to the fancy title, the biggest perk of being the Duke of Cornwall is the Duchy that comes with it. The Duchy has assets worth billions of dollars. Yep, billions.

Although the Duchy is worth a 10-figure sum, that doesn't automatically mean William's net worth is the same. However, there are some reports that say William is actually a billionaire — the first member of the British royal family to become a billionaire, no less — and that his wealth has surpassed even his father King Charles'. Either way, it's not hard to understand how and why Prince William and his wife live an insanely lavish life.

King Charles III: $800 million

As the head of the British monarchy, it seems only fitting that King Charles III is the wealthiest of all the royals. According to Celebrity Net Worth, His Majesty is sitting on a whopping $800 million. In addition to the money he receives through the Sovereign Grant, which provides public funding for the running costs of the monarchy and regularly comes in at over $100 million, Charles also earns money from the Duchy of Lancaster. Like the Duchy of Cornwall, the Duchy of Lancaster is a private estate passed down from monarch to monarch. The money made from it is called the Privy Purse.

The Duchy wasn't the only thing Queen Elizabeth II passed on to her son. In 2023, Forbes reported that he inherited around $500 million from the late monarch, but this is just an estimate, because the exact details are private and Her Majesty's personal will is sealed for at least 90 years. Personal assets aside, there are some obvious ones Charles inherited from his mother. Think: Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. In total, Forbes estimates the king took over institutions with a total of $46 billion in assets — but this isn't all money in the bank.
