Celeb Couples Who Made Movies Together After Getting Married (& How They Felt About Being Co-Stars)
It's not exactly uncommon for two actors to catch feelings while co-starring in a movie. In fact, plenty of celebrity couples (whether still together or not) have made movies after getting married. Between long days on set and performing emotional and/or intimate scenes in character, it makes sense that some people find themselves connecting to their co-stars more off-camera than on. Whether these marriages stand the test of time is another thing, of course, but it's certainly interesting to watch spouses team up on a project.
Some superstar couples haven't collaborated on-screen since getting married. Take Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, who tied the knot in 2012, for example: The A-listers met on the set of "Green Lantern" (2011) but have yet to co-star in another feature film since, although they've got plenty of credits in their respective filmographies. On the other hand, some of the biggest Tinseltown couples who have made movies together, like Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, are not legally bound. Check out these 14 current or formerly married duos who have starred in at least one movie together since tying the knot.
Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor enjoyed making Zoolander
Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor met in 1999 on the set of "Heat Vision and Jack," a science-fiction series that never aired; Ben was the director, while Taylor was hired to act. They married in May 2000 and went on to welcome two children: Ella Stiller, who was born in 2002, and Quinlin Stiller, who was born in 2005. Though the couple separated in 2017, Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor got back together in 2020.
Although "Heat Vision and Jack" didn't work out, Ben's next project did: "Zoolander (2001)", a satirical comedy he directed, co-wrote, co-produced, and starred in as the titular character. Taylor portrayed Matilda Jeffries, a reporter and Derek Zoolander's eventual on-screen love interest. The couple reprised their roles in the film's sequel, "Zoolander 2" (2016).
Ben told People in 2026, "[Making 'Zoolander'] was the best thing for Christine and me because we had just gotten married, and going off and making a movie is such an all-consuming job that it was a great way to be with her for the first year of our marriage."
John Krasinski and Emily Blunt love working together
John Krasinski and Emily Blunt met in 2008 through a mutual friend; as the story goes, Krasinski left his dinner companion, Justin Theroux, to talk to Blunt. They got engaged less than a year later in 2009, and got married in 2010 (they say, after all, you know when you know). They have two children, born in 2014 and 2016. Fun fact: their brother-in-law is Stanley Tucci, who is married to Blunt's sister.
After almost 10 years of marriage, Krasinski and Blunt co-starred in their first film together: "A Quiet Place" (2018), which Krasinski also directed and co-wrote. The pair reprised their roles in the sequel "A Quiet Place Part II" (2020), although Krasinski's on-screen role functioned mostly as a cameo.
"I've obviously been the biggest fan of hers forever, but to see her on set doing what she does, when you're in the room it's a whole different thing," Krasinski told ET in 2018. Blunt remarked on her end, "Seeing each other in a professional realm and also allowing that sort of new side that we saw in each other was really bonding, it was like very cool."
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman co-starred in two movies after tying the knot
Once upon a time, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were basically the reigning king and queen of Hollywood. The former couple met on the set of "Days of Thunder" (1990) and were married by the end of that year. They welcomed two children through adoption before they split in 2001.Their divorce was finalized that same year.
Cruise and Kidman co-starred in two more movies before they went their separate ways: Ron Howard's "Far and Away" (1992) and Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut" (1999), with the pair portraying a married couple in the latter. ("Eyes Wide Shut" was also referenced in the music video for "Nicole Kidman," a 2026 pop song by Adéla).
Looking back on making "Eyes Wide Shut," Kidman has maintained that the more intense scenes her character shared with her ex's character didn't reflect the state of their real-life relationship at the time. "That fits the narrative that people came up with, but I definitely didn't see it like that. We were happily married through that. We would go go-kart racing after those scenes," she told The New York Times in 2020. "We'd rent out a place and go racing at 3 in the morning. I don't know what else to say. Maybe I don't have the ability to look back and dissect it. Or I'm not willing to."
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie co-led a romantic drama
When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, aka "Brangelina," were together, few A-list pairings held a candle to this celebrity power couple. Without getting into all of the drama surrounding Pitt and Jolie's relationship, here's a very quick rundown: Pitt and Jolie met on the set of 2005's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," began dating shortly after, got married in 2014, and separated in 2016. Their divorce was legally granted in 2019; they share six biological and adopted kids.
Pitt and Jolie co-starred in one movie during their short marriage: "By the Sea," a romantic drama that Jolie directed and wrote. She and Pitt co-produced the 2015 film. Pitt and Jolie portray Roland and Vanessa, respectively, an American couple staying in France in an attempt to salvage their marriage.
"[Filming 'By the Sea'] was a good time," Pitt told ET before its premiere at Hollywood's AFI Fest. "We came out stronger on the other end. Just, making something together, and something she wrote, it was a real pleasure." Jolie called the experience an "odd honeymoon" in the same interview, although she agreed that it strengthened their bond.
Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell sing each other's praises
While there are a lot of weird things about Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard's marriage, there's no doubt that this couple is 100% dedicated to one another. Shepard and Bell confirmed their engagement in 2010 after three years together, although they didn't tie the knot until 2013. They have two children, both of whom have been kept out of the spotlight.
Shepard and Bell have starred in just one movie together since getting married: "CHiPs" (2017), a quasi-reboot of the original TV series, which ran from 1977 to 1983. Shepard, who directed and co-wrote the film's screenplay, portrays Officer Jon Baker; Bell plays Karen Baker, Jon's estranged wife.
"She gives me a great rate," Shepard quipped about working with Bell in a 2017 interview with Variety. "She's my favorite actor. She's perfect on every take. It's very annoying." During the same interview, Bell revealed, "Once a week he'd get everyone on the set together and say: 'Our number one priority is to have fun... if you're not having fun, come find me.'"
Will Arnett and Amy Poehler teamed up multiple times
Will Arnett and Amy Poehler's relationship made so much sense back in the day given that they're both comedy superstars. The former couple met in 1996, got married in 2003, and welcomed two children in 2008 and 2010. Unfortunately, Arnett and Poehler just couldn't make it work: they separated in 2012, with their divorce finalized in 2016.
Arnett and Poehler starred as Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldernber, sibling figure skaters, in the sports comedy "Blades of Glory" (2007). They also voiced characters in three animated features during their marriage: "Horton Hears a Who!" (2008), "Monsters vs. Aliens" (2009), and "The Secret World of Arrietty" (2012).
On a 2025 episode of the "Las Culturistas" podcast, Poehler called her "Blades of Glory" experience "really fun" and remarked, "Will Arnett and I played brother and sister, but we were actually married in real life. And they tested that movie and the testing, they were like, 'We hate Stranz and Fairchild' ... we did tons of photo shoots and DVD extras."
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith played romantic interests
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's chaotic relationship is definitely one for the books, with Jada basically making the word "entanglement" a pop culture phenomenon. To make this long story short, the Smiths met in 1994 on the set of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," married in 1997, and separated in 2016, although they've yet to divorce. They have two kids: Jaden Smith, born in 1998, and Willow Smith, born in 2000.
Though Will and Jada have been in each other's lives for decades, the two A-listers have only appeared in one movie together: "Ali" (2001), a biopic about Muhammad Ali. Will portrayed the legendary boxer, while Jada had a supporting role as Ali's first wife, Sonji Roi.
Jada reflected on working on this film in a 2018 interview with Entertainment Weekly, during which she admitted, "I remember how nervous I was for [Will] ... I really didn't, at the time, believe he could pull it off." She added, "I didn't want to audition for this. I did not want to be in this movie with Will."
David Arquette and Courteney Cox appeared in three movies
David Arquette and Courteney Cox met on the set of the first "Scream" in 1996 and began dating soon after. They tied the knot in 1999 and had a daughter, Coco Arquette, in 2004. They separated in 2010 and divorced in 2013, although they've remained on good terms since. As Cox once told People, "He's my favorite person in the world."
David and Cox were still married when they filmed "Scream 3" (2000) and "Scream 4" (2011), with David portraying Dewey Riley and Cox playing Gale Weathers. Outside of the horror franchise, David and Cox played the leads in "The Shrink Is In" (2001), a comedy directed by Richard Benjamin.
"The first 'Scream' we were falling in love, the second 'Scream', she hated me," David quipped on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" in 2021. "Thank God for ['Scream' director] Wes Craven, 'cause I got a baby out of it." On Cox's end, she told The New York Times in 2022, "I had no apprehensions. I was just so happy to be working with [David Arquette and Neve Campbell]."
Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar have no plans to collaborate again
Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar are straight-up couple goals — and have been for decades now. This beloved pair met on the set of "I Know What You Did Last Summer" (1997), although they didn't go on their first date until 2000. As the saying goes, one thing led to another: they've been married since 2002 and have two kids.
After "I Know What You Did Last Summer," Prinze and Gellar appeared in the cult classic "Scooby-Doo" (2002) and its sequel, "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed" (2004). Prinze portrayed Fred, while Gellar played Daphne. They also both appeared in 1999's "She's All That," although Gellar had an uncredited cameo role.
While Prinze and Gellar enjoyed collaborating back in the day, they have no plans to appear in future films together. "The odds are the movie we would do together would be a romantic comedy," Prinze told The Hollywood Reporter in 2021. "It wouldn't be very exciting for us to pretend to struggle to be together for 96 minutes when we go home together every night."
Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally love to work together
Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally are just adorable, full stop. These lovebirds met in 2000 when they starred in the same play, "The Berlin Circle." They got engaged in 2002 and married the next year — over two decades later, they're still going strong. You may recognize Offerman and Mullally from TV shows like "Parks and Recreation," where the pair hilariously portrayed Ron Swanson and Tammy II, respectively.
While Offerman and Mullally are arguably best known for their TV roles, they've actually appeared in six movies together as husband and wife. In 2012 and 2013, they co-starred in three films alone: "The Kings of Summer," "Somebody Up There Likes Me," and "Ernest and Celestine." Their most recent collaboration to date, "Infinity Baby," was released in 2017.
"I think one of the things we find most attractive about each other is the lengths to which we'll make an a** of ourselves in the name of comedy," Offerman told Backstage in 2012. "There's a real open student-teacher relationship where Megan is years ahead of me as far as the work she's done and was on top of the game long before I was."
Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz value a good work-life balance
Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, another Hollywood super couple, initially met on the set of "Jamón Jamón" (1992); Bardem was in his early 20s, while Cruz was just 16 years old. They reconnected in 2007 when they were both cast in Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" and got married in 2010. Bardem and Cruz are parents to two children, both of whom have been raised away from the public eye.
Bardem and Cruz have acted in four films together since tying the knot: Ridley Scott's "The Counselor" (2013), "Loving Pablo" (2017), "Everybody Knows" (2018), and "Bunker" (2026), a psychological thriller directed by Florian Zeller.
"We both really love this profession, but it's true that there's a good balance in terms of how much we talk about work," Cruz told reporters at the 2026 Venice Film Festival, as reported by People. "Obviously, if you're preparing a movie together, that's going to be very present in the conversations. ... Naturally, it has happened every five years or so."
Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman made one independent film
Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman were another great couple back in the day — and another former pair that met on set, this time while filming "Gattaca" (1996). They got married in 1998 and welcomed two children, Maya Hawke and Levon Hawke. Ethan and Thurman separated in 2003 and divorced in 2005; it's rumored that Ethan cheated, although he's always denied it.
Ethan and Thurman starred in one movie together during their marriage, "Tape" (2001). Directed by Richard Linklater, the real-time, one-room drama revolves around two old friends, Vince (Ethan Hawke) and Jon (Robert Sean Leonard), as they discuss their mutual ex-fling, Amy (Uma Thurman).
Ethan reflected on what it's like falling for a co-star in a 2025 interview with GQ. "There's a certain intimacy to the work that we do. Imaginative intimacy. It's such a high," he explained. "It turns the temperature up in your life. It can be like falling in love at summer camp. It doesn't have any connection to the dailiness of real life. That's the danger of it."
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are seasoned collaborators
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson's love story in photos proves that if there's a will in Hollywood, there's certainly a way. This power couple met in 1981 on the set of "Bosom Buddies," reconnected on the set of "Volunteers" in 1985, and married in 1988. They've remained happily together ever since and share two children: Chet Hanks, born in 1990, and Truman Hanks, born in 1995.
Tom and Wilson have co-starred in six movies together since tying the knot, including "Sleepless in Seattle" (1993), "Larry Crowne" (2011), and "Asteroid City" (2023). Another one of these films is Sacha Baron Cohen's satirical comedy "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm" (2020), in which they both make cameos.
"We got to go up and have the best time of our lives," Tom told Extra at the New York City premiere of "Asteroid City." Wilson chimed in, "We had so much fun. We were there together with a great cast and in the Spanish countryside. What's wrong with that?"
Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor set the bar high
Elizabeth Taylor was married a stunning number of times in her life, including twice to the same person. Taylor met fellow actor Richard Burton on the set of "Cleopatra" (1962) while both were married to other people. They divorced their respective spouses and married in 1964, only to divorce one another in 1974. Taylor and Burton reconciled and tied the knot again in 1975, but separated for good in 1976.
Taylor and Burton co-starred in nine films together during their first marriage, including "The Sandpiper" (1965), "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" (1966), "The Taming of the Shrew" (1967), and "Hammersmith Is Out" (1972). No movies were made during their second union, considering it didn't last long.
"We love each other. Our occupation has nothing to do with our emotions," Taylor told reporters while being interviewed in 1966. Years later, during an 1980 appearance on "The Dick Cavett Show," Burton praised, "[Taylor] is indeed a woman of infinite variety ... she's one of the most underrated screen actresses that ever lived."
