Celebrities getting nose jobs is nothing new, but plastic surgery hasn't always been as "culturally accepted" as it is today, according to Ashley Tisdale. The High School Musical star shared a personal essay to her site Frenshe on Thursday, which revealed the real reason she got a nose job almost 15 years ago. In the essay titled "It's Time for Me to Finally Talk About This," Tisdale details how difficult it was for her after receiving rhinoplasty back in 2007. When going under the knife, she was asked if she would also like to shave down the "bump" on her nose and she agreed. At the time, she put little thought into the decision, but it was something that would later make a huge impact on her life.
After the surgery, Tisdale received a ton of backlash from the media. She said she felt "scrutinized, judged, and made to feel ashamed over [her] decision," which ultimately was no one's business but her own. It was a difficult time, and the reason Tisdale felt like speaking up now is that in a recent interview, those emotions were brought back up. In an interview, she was asked once again about her decision to have the surgery (via People). She said that while the interview "was a bummer," she was going to make it a positive by speaking up.

The mom-to-be wanted to use this opportunity to set a good example for her daughter. While at the time, Tisdale believed her decision was not a big deal, the media made it out to be one. She hopes that her daughter's future "choices aren't met with judgement or shame" (via Buzzfeed).
With celebrities like the Kardashians setting unrealistic beauty standards that can only be met by plastic surgery, according to The New York Times, going under the knife is not as taboo as it used to be. Hopefully, that means people feel comfortable making the decisions they need to for their own bodies and health. Back in 2007, Tisdale confessed to People that she had the surgery done because she couldn't breathe out of the right side of her nose. She did the interview because she wanted to be open and honest with her fans.
Now, Tisdale is keeping that honesty by speaking up once again. According to E! News, this isn't even the first time Tisdale has spoken up about plastic surgery. Just last year, she had her breast plants removed after suffering from Breast Implant Illness. The actress revealed on Instagram that while she may not be completely proud of the choices she's made, she doesn't regret them because they got her to where she is today.
