Nate Berkus And Jeremiah Brent Dish On What It's Like To Work With Your Spouse
From HGTV's Nate and Jeremiah by Design to Nate and Jeremiah: Save My House, designer duo Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent have been working on television together for years. They've also been married during all of these home makeovers, too. While some people couldn't imagine working alongside their spouse every single day, "we love working together," Jeremiah Brent said during a recent press event that The List attended.
This past year, the two had the opportunity to star together on season two of HGTV's Rock the Block, where they had to put their heads together to design an entire three-story house in only six weeks. Perhaps the toughest part for the two was that they were given just $225,000 to do it. Berkus, it seems, was barely able to keep them under budget. "Half of my journey was telling Nate, 'No,'" Brent admitted.
Because of all these restrictions, a bit of stress obviously ensued. It seemed there was bound to be turmoil for the show's contestants — especially when it came to a married couple who had to take the tension home with them. Nonetheless, there's something special that keeps Berkus and Brent coming back to each other when it comes to being business partners, and we were there to hear all about it.
Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent are the most creative in chaos
Stress can sometimes get the best of you in a renovation competition. Not only did Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent have to work together all day long on Rock the Block, but because they live together, work stress followed them home, too. And just like any other married couple, these two really know how to aggravate each other. However, they still wouldn't have it any other way. "We definitely push each other, but we love that tension creatively," Brent explained during the press event. "And that's usually where the most interesting things are born."
Even with that being the case, disagreements on design are something that could never tear these two apart. Working together — throughout all aspects of their life — is something Brent and Berkus are accustomed to. They're the best at challenging each other, and their love for interior decorating seems to be something that has always brought them together behind-the-scenes. Even on their off-days away from the set of Rock the Block, the two were spending every waking moment at old antique stores around the area and dreaming about the perfect design.
Even when times are tough, Berkus and Brent know they'll always be the dream design team. "There's no one else I would have rather done this with," Berkus said. "There's no one else I would even dream of doing it with." They're the perfect partners — on and off the screen.
