Britney Spears Shares A Relationship Update After A Brief Social Media Break

"It's been a while. I know I shouldn't've kept you waiting, but I'm here now." Britney Spears sang those words on her song "Break The Ice" in 2007 (via YouTube). The turn of phrase spoke to her return to recording after a four-year gap between albums. Years later, it also relates to her return to Instagram. Last week the Princess of Pop suddenly deactivated her account on the social media platform where she's kept fans entertained with runway shows and cute skits for years (via Idolator). More recently, fans of Spears have viewed the account as her one way to speak to the masses as she continues to fight her conservatorship (via Instagram).

Shortly after announcing her engagement to Sam Asghari last week, Spears turned off the app without any advance warning. Some concerned fans worried that the decision to deactivate was not her own. Others hypothesized that the decision had something to do with Octavia Spencer joking about the need for Spears and Asghari to sign a prenuptial agreement before the wedding. The concerns persisted even after Spencer apologized and Asghari graciously accepted.

However, the "Toxic" siren offered a simple explanation on Twitter. "Don't worry, folks," she wrote. "Just taking a little break from social media to celebrate my engagement." Spears promised to "be back soon," and she stayed true to her word. Today (September 20) she returned to the app with a more detailed explanation for her absence and an update on her engagement celebrations.

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari spent some time celebrating their engagement

Britney Spears marked her return to the app with a post that explains what she's been up to for the last few days. According to Spears, she and Sam Asghari booked a celebratory weekend getaway. "I still can't believe it," she gushed in the caption, which accompanied two photos of the pop star posing solo (via Instagram). Hawk-eyed fans may note that Spears' hair is long and blond, although she recently debuted a shorter cut with streaks of red (via Instagram). Well, there's an explanation for that. "I took these in Palm Springs with clip-in extensions," Spears added.

She also seemingly alluded to a very-relatable Instagram addiction. "I couldn't stay away from the gram too long so I'm back already." Trust us, we get it. In true Britney Spears fashion, the post is littered with happy-looking emojis. Fans rushed to the comments section to celebrate her return to the app. "We missed you so much," one fan wrote. She followed the post up with a video of her dancing to Billie Eilish (via Instagram).

Although Spears spent a good deal of time on Instagram celebrating her engagement last week, her final post before deactivating referred to the #FreeBritney movement. "I've waited 13 years and counting for my freedom," she wrote (via Instagram). "Team #FreeBritney you guys f—ing kick a–." Fans can hopefully expect more of her candor and beloved content on the app going forward.
