Alexandria Zahra Jones (who goes by Lexi Jones) was born on August 15, 2000, in New York City. She is the first and only child of fashion icon Iman and music legend David Bowie. Lexi arrived about eight years after Bowie and Iman got married, and she has two older half-siblings. The eldest is Duncan Jones, born in 1971 to Bowie and his first wife, actor Angela Barnett. Her older half-sister, Zulekha Haywood, was born in 1978, during Iman's relationship with Olympic-winning basketball player Spencer Haywood.

With that much star power behind her, it was no real surprise that Lexi made her global debut in the most glamorous way possible: on the cover of Hello! magazine. At just 17 days old, Bowie and Iman's daughter graced the pages of the mag, as the trio posed inside their NYC apartment. Even so, the proud papa jokingly explained that it would actually be his daughter's "first and last interview." As for Iman, she was overjoyed by her baby girl's arrival, gushing, "Overnight, our lives have been enriched beyond belief." Noting how Lexi brought her and Bowie even closer together, she enthused, "There's a joy or a contentment that's almost palpable to both of us."

Now in her early 20s, Lexi has begun developing an online presence through her Instagram account. Te multi-talented artist maintains close connections to her family as she navigates life as the child of an incredibly influential power couple.

Many agencies wanted Alexandria Jones to model for them

Before she retired in 1989, supermodel Iman built an illustrious career for herself, becoming a muse for designers like Gianni Versace, Calvin Klein, and Donna Karan. Though she had a tremendous amount of success in the industry, she wasn't keen on the idea of her own daughter, Alexandria Jones, diving in. That said, it sure sounds like Iman and David Bowie's kid would've had no trouble getting into modeling. As Iman told Net-a-Porter in 2018, she created a lot of buzz in the industry when she posted a series of photos of her daughter on her 18th birthday. "[E]very agency, every designer, called me to say: 'If she wants to, we'd love for her to model for us,'" she said. "I said: 'No, she doesn't.'"

Iman and Bowie wanted their daughter to enjoy existing away from the public eye for as long as possible, and working as a model certainly wouldn't fit that plan. "I know why they wanted her to model — it's because she is David Bowie's daughter," Iman said. She also suggested that Lexi did consider getting into the fashion industry at one point, but eventually decided against it. "Have a life that is private while you can, because one day soon it is going to be public, so enjoy this," she told her daughter.

Alexandria Jones has a tattoo dedicated to her father

David Bowie died in January 2016, just two days after releasing his final album, "Blackstar." His death came 18 months after he had been diagnosed with liver cancer. He was 69 years old.

In 2017, Alexandria Jones and Iman got tattoos to commemorate the anniversary of Bowie's passing. Lexi got a crescent moon tattoo with the script "Daddy xx" inside the moon and "1947-2016" underneath the writing. Her mother, Iman, got a tattoo of a Bowie knife with "David" written on the handle. Iman shared pictures of the tattoos on Instagram and wrote, "You will always be a part of us."

Since getting the tattoo dedicated to her father, Lexi has also gotten a tattoo of a lion on her shoulder. As some Instagram commenters pointed out, the tattoo also includes Lexi and Iman's names in Arabic.

David Bowie and Iman's daughter is a talented artist

Alexandria Jones comes from an extremely creative family. After all, her father, David Bowie, was a world-class musician with a penchant for fashion; her mother, Iman, modeled for top brands during her career before starting her own cosmetics line. Lexi is a talented illustrator and painter, and shares her work on her public Instagram. What's more, Lexi's passion for art inspired her mother to give painting a try during the pandemic in 2020. "David was a painter; my daughter is a painter. I never painted in my life, so I've taken it up," Iman told Harper's Bazaar.

Lexi's original art can be purchased through her Depop account, where she sells original paintings and upcycled clothing. Her unique style of painting involves distorted faces and abstract proportions of figures. She credited Tim Burton's unique art style as an inspiration for the development of her own artistry in an Instagram post where she gave followers more insight into her process and philosophy. "My meditation is painting, illustrating, and sketching," she wrote. "During these times I feel freed from my mind and am able to convert the pent up negative energy into something positive, something I end up feeling proud of."

Alexandria Jones is also a poet

Alexandria Jones is not just an incredibly talented visual artist, but a poet and musician as well. Jones began uploading her poetry on her public Instagram in December 2020. Her freeform poetry examines feminist themes of autonomy, love, and intimacy. Soon after, in February 2021, Lexi shared her first song with the world, revealing her stunning singing voice at the same time.

Lexi posted the song she had written on her Instagram feed and wrote, "I'm absolutely terrified to post this. I keep going back and forth between hating it and liking it but f*** it." Her video received over 150,000 views, and began picking up popularity when her older half-brother, Duncan Jones, took to X to give his sister a shout out: "Just found out that my sister can SIIIING! So THAT'S where those genes went." With some more encouragement from fans and Lexi's family, we might be seeing more of the young artist's work in the near future.

She is a fierce feminist

Like her mother Iman, Alexandria Jones isn't afraid to stand up for her beliefs. After posting a picture of her in a bathing suit to her Instagram, she received a vulgar DM from a follower. Lexi posted a screenshot of the message to her feed with the caption, "Feels good to love my body after years of hating and disrespecting it. No shame in liking how I look in my cowboy swimsuit, but a shame that you're able to twist it into something so perverted and vulgar" (via People).

Lexi has also expressed feminist values and intentions in both her poetry and visual artwork. Many of Lexi's illustrations and paintings center on semi-nude women with bodies of all shapes and sizes, promoting a vision of body positivity through her inclusion of all types of women in her work. Her mother, Iman, demonstrated values of inclusion throughout young Lexi's life as the founder of a color-inclusive cosmetics line, IMAN Cosmetics. Before even starting her own beauty brand, Iman also used her platform as a supermodel to join forces with Naomi Campbell and Bethann Hardison to put pressure on the fashion industry to include more women of color in runways and advertising. Iman's hard work paid off, demonstrating the value of activism and its potential results.

Iman and Alexandria were separated during the COVID-19 lockdowns

Alexandria Jones is extremely close with her mother, Iman. Lexi regularly posts pictures of her and her mother together on Instagram, in addition to posting appreciation posts for special occasions. During the first wave of COVID-19 lockdowns in Spring 2020, Lexi was just 19 years old and taking time off in between high school and college, and was separated from her mom.

Lexi was living in New York when the first wave of COVID-19 cases hit the U.S. On Mother's Day in 2020, Alexandria shared a picture she took with her mother on Instagram and asked people to follow guidelines and stay safe during the pandemic: "Everyone [please] stay inside I haven't seen my mom for 6 months because we live on opposite coasts and it is very difficult to leave NY right now but I'm a child and I miss her dearly."

Alexandria Jones' half-brother is like her 'fun uncle'

Alexandria Jones posted a cute throwback picture on her Instagram with her half-brother Duncan Jones in August 2021. Duncan is David Bowie's first son from his previous marriage to Angie Bowie. Duncan's story is fairly tragic, has he has been estranged from his mom since he was a kid. As he stated on a 2018 episode of "WTF with Marc Maron," he hadn't spoken to his mom since he was 13 years old. "She was a corrosive person," he said.

Duncan went on to build a strong bond with his stepmother, Iman, and his much younger half-sister, Lexi. Noting the 30-year age difference between Lexi and himself, he quipped, "My relationship with her is more like a fun uncle." In 2020, Duncan offered another fun peek into their dynamic in a post on X: "My favorite thing about having a half-sister is that I get to embarrass her by introducing myself to her cool friends as her 'brother from another mother.'"

Her childhood dog's eyes reminded fans of her dad

Alexandria Jones's childhood dog, Max, had one blue and one brown eye. Over the years the pooch's eyes got tongues wagging because David Bowie's eyes also appeared to be different colors. "You couldn't make it up," Iman told Harper's Bazaar in 2021. "When I walked [Max], people would stop me in the street and say, 'You planned this!'"

Contrary to popular belief, the late musician did not actually have heterochromia, or the condition in which a person's eyes are two separate colors. Rather, one of Bowie's pupils was permanently dilated as a result of a fight he got into as a kid, and so one eye looked darker than the other.

Sadly, Max died in February 2021 at age 14. "Maxipoo, the best boy a girl could ask for. Thank you for making me smile these past 14 years," Lexi wrote in a post paying tribute to the pup.

Alexandria Jones' name has a special meaning to David Bowie and Iman

Shortly after he met Iman, David Bowie was already dreaming up potential baby names. As he told Hello! magazine after Alexandria Jones was born, he couldn't wait to grow his family with the supermodel. "My attraction to her was immediate and all-encompassing," he shared. "That she would be my wife, in my head, was a done deal."

Bowie had favored the name Alexander in particular, and was pleasantly surprised to find out that Iman was on the same page. "I can only ask you to believe that when lman and I talked about names, she suggested that if it was a girl then it should be Alexandria, after the Greco-Egyptian city. She had no idea how close it was to my own choice," he recalled to Hello! mag. Lexi's middle name, Zahra, was actually almost Iman's name. As Bowie told Hello!, the Arabic name means "inner light; luminous; fair and beautiful; blossoming; or even shining."

David Bowie's daughter struggled to accept his death

When news broke of David Bowie's death in January 2016, it came as a shock to most of the world. The 69-year-old legend had managed to keep his cancer diagnosis largely under wraps and fans were in disbelief. Bowie's son, Duncan Jones, confirmed the news in a tweet and told fans (via CBS News), "I'll be offline for a while." Iman also retreated from the limelight, making her first public appearance at New York Fashion Week that September where she showed off a necklace with the word "David." Per People, she told reporters, "I'm wearing this until my death." Iman has also said she will never remarry.

One family member who didn't initially address Bowie's death was his daughter, who was just 15 at the time. Lexi Jones didn't open up about the loss until 2024 when she penned an eye-opening essay in which she revealed just how much she struggled. "I confused living life with surviving life's days by filling my body's bottomless void, drowning myself in toxins and poison," she wrote, per MailOnline. The 23-year-old said she felt alone and isolated after she herself pushed those closest to her away. "I've hurt the ones I loved most with hateful words to make them feel at least a little bit of the pain I went through every day," she continued before concluding, "Growing to be such a violent and angry individual was unbelievably contradictory to the sweet and gentle little girl I used to be."

Alexandria Jones is following in her father's footsteps

It's clear that Lexi Jones shared an incredibly close bond with her father, as evidenced by the sweet childhood videos she's posted on her Instagram. In one clip, a young Lexi can be seen bouncing up and down on her dad's lap as they both belt out "Over the Rainbow." In another touching video, father and daughter are playing the piano together. Indeed, as mom Iman shared in Harper's Bazaar in 2021, the duo bonded over all things art. "David was a painter; my daughter is a painter," she mused. The same was true of music, as Lexi had fun learning about all sorts of instruments from a young age, including drums.

It seems that love never faltered and, in early 2025, a 24-year-old Lexi began posting clips to Instagram of herself playing guitar and singing original songs. That April, she released her debut album, titled "Xandri." Composed of 12 songs, the record runs just over 47 minutes and is a blend of pop and indie rock with touches of electronic music, too. Initial feedback to the release was overwhelmingly positive with one fan on Instagram gushing, "I can't stop listening to this... you write from a very personal POV." Another agreed, writing, "So far totally addicted to the opening track. So hypnotic!"

She doesn't want her work to be compared to David Bowie's legacy

Despite sharing a love of music with her famous father and following in his footsteps, Lexi Jones does not simply want to be known as the daughter of one of rock's greatest legends. Just days after she released her debut album, "Xandri," in April 2025, the 24-year-old took to Instagram to share a lengthy poem about the realities of entering the music biz today as David Bowie's daughter.

"I'm more than just his name," she wrote, pointing out how folks often fail to see her as an individual artist, instead focusing on her family connection and judging her for it. "They compare me to his heights/like I'm supposed to reach his light," she continued, telling fans that her intention has never been to copy her father or outdo him in some way. Instead, all she hopes to achieve is to let her own voice and sound shine through, no matter how difficult it may be to step out of Ziggy Stardust's shadow. "I'm not trying to fill his shoes/I'm just trying to find my own peace," Jones concluded, noting how she's struggled with the criticism and comparisons but has ultimately chosen to forge on.

She turned to art to help her mental health

In addition to pursuing a career in music, Lexi Jones has long been a passionate visual artist. In May 2023, the 23-year-old even launched her own online shop where she sells signed fine art prints for $415 each. There's also an apparel section with shirts, hoodies, and tote bags emblazoned with some of her drawings, as well as others that feature her name and the initials ALXX.

As Jones explains on the website, she started drawing and painting at a young age and by the time she was in her mid-teens, she was taking it seriously. It's not just about building a career, though. Rather, Jones revealed that art has become her go-to way of dealing with mental health struggles. "Creating art has always been a coping mechanism of mine, to get out of dark places that felt impossible to see my way out of," she wrote, comparing it to meditation. "I feel free from my mind and am able to convert my pent up aggressive energy into something positive," Jones explained, adding that she hoped her openness would inspire others dealing with similar issues.

Jump to June 2025 and Jones found yet another creative outlet to help express her emotions: writing. That month, she self-published "404," a collection of 10 short stories which are, as she put it, "Rooted in the art of trying to find your way back after disappearing for a while."

Her dad ensured she'd become a millionaire at age 25

When David Bowie died in January 2016, he reportedly left behind a $100 million fortune and very specific instructions on what to do with it. First, his wife, Iman, would receive half that amount, according to Page Six which saw the legendary musician's will. However, she wouldn't just get $50 million upfront. Rather, Bowie appointed two of his lawyers to provide the supermodel with four yearly payments that would mimic a sort of quarterly income. She was also bequeathed their New York City apartment in Manhattan's Nolita neighborhood, which Bowie initially bought for $3.81 million in 1999.

Meanwhile, his son, Duncan Jones, would receive a $25 million lump sum. Lexi Jones, who was 15 at the time, too would earn $25 million, but not right away. Instead, Bowie stipulated that Lexi would receive the cash once she turned 25 in August 2025. At the same time, she would also be gifted the family's vacation home located on New York's Little Tonshi Mountain. Bowie and Iman purchased the 64-acre mountain property in the Catskills in 2003 for $1,162,500 and built the home on it from scratch. The property would prove to be just as impressive as its surroundings with its expansive rooms, luxury furnishings, and impressive art collection, including Bowie's own artwork as well as paintings by Lexi herself.
