According to CNN, White's heartbreaking death occurred just ahead of her 100th birthday, which would have been on January 17, 2022. "Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever," Jeff Witjas, White's agent and friend, said following her death. "I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much. I don't think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again."
White never let her age stop her. She continued to work and form new relationships until her death, including one with "Deadpool" star Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds, who's married to fellow actor Blake Lively, shared a joke that they used to be in a relationship — and that Reynolds never got over her (via The New York Post). The two appeared in the 2009 film "The Proposal" together, per IMDb, where White portrayed Reynolds' character's funny grandmother. Their chemistry in the film was unmatched, which said a lot because Reynolds' opposite was played by Sandra Bullock.
According to The New York Post, White and Reynolds' ongoing bit continued until this week, just before her untimely death. The actress even said that Reynolds "can't get over his thing for me." Reynolds then responded, saying, "I'm absolutely sick of the media exploiting past relationships just to drive clicks," in a December 29 tweet.
