How Kate Middleton And Prince William Are Solidifying Their Friendship With Tom Cruise

Royals love doing everyday things like the rest of us. They go on family outings and even hit the movies. There's only one little difference — they choose red carpet premieres instead of your average movie theatre. Prince William and Kate Middleton are getting all dressed up for a major movie event, while simultaneously proving they have some of the coolest friendships on the planet. If you didn't think the royal couple was cool enough already, you will soon.

William and Kate have some pretty famous friends. After all, Kate's grandmother-in-law is literally the Queen of England. There's a long list of A-list friends where that came from, too. According to Hello, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are close friends with Victoria and David Beckham, and even Reese Witherspoon. The list also includes one of America's favorite film stars — Tom Cruise.

Want to know how close they are? Well, let's just say that the two were invited to a very important event. And this isn't the first gift they've gotten from the star, either.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will attend the Top Gun: Maverick premiere

The royals are officially hitting the red carpet — again. It's not often that Prince William and Kate Middleton walk a red carpet, but that's exactly where they're headed. According to People, William and Kate will attend the "Top Gun: Maverick" UK premiere. The Duke of Cambridge is actually a pilot himself, so it makes sense that he would be the royal to appear. Prince William is a trained helicopter pilot and served in the Royal Air Force, which is a little different than a fighter pilot, but still pretty awesome.

William and Kate might not appear at red carpet events often, but when they do, they do it in style. The couple was at the James Bond "No Time To Die" movie premiere in 2021. But they're not the only family members that have ties to movies. Queen Elizabeth II was actually in one of the James Bond movies, according to TODAY.

While just going to the premiere is exciting, it will be equally intriguing to see what Prince William and Kate wear on the red carpet. Kate's a pro at recycling dresses, so fingers crossed she decides to go eco-friendly with her "Top Gun: Maverick" look. The world will find out at the premiere on May 19.

William and Kate have already seen the Tom Cruise movie

Let's be honest — there's a certain rush that comes with the premiere of anything. Knowing you are one of the first to see a movie is just downright amazing. But Prince William and Kate Middleton will be just a little bit cooler than most people at the premiere because, as it turns out, this won't be the first time the royal pair sees "Top Gun: Maverick."

Back in April, Prince William and Kate were personally invited to see the movie by Tom Cruise himself. The couple, along with a few close family members ,got an entire cinema to themselves to watch the film even before the premiere. "The rest of the cinema was shut to ensure privacy and William, Kate and a few other members of the royal family — plus a couple of very trusted friends — were the first to see it," an insider told the Daily Mail.

(If that's not one of the coolest perks of being in the royal family, then we don't know what is.)

Kate and Will's invite comes as the two try to 'modernize the monarchy'

Oddly enough, the invite comes right after the announcement that Price William and Kate Middleton are trying their best to make the monarchy a little more modern. The pair announced that they will be dropping their royal titles to "be more approachable," per The Sun.

"The general consensus was that the tour seemed out of date, out of touch, too formal and stuffy," a source tells The Sun. "So now it's more 'Wills and Kate' instead of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — 'just call me Wills' type of thing. They want to try to avoid the bows and curtsies in public, be more approachable, less formal, less stuffy, and break away with a lot of the tradition and focus on a modern monarchy."

How getting invited to a red carpet premiere with one of America's most popular movie stars fits into the plan to become more approachable is unclear. It will all come down to how the royal couple acts at the premiere.
