What Really Happened To Andre DiMera On Days Of Our Lives?

Fans who have been watching "Days of Our Lives" for a long time know that there have been plenty of villains in Salem over the years (via Nine). Some villains walk the line between good and bad like Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus), Eve Donovan (Kassie DePaiva), Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney), Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer), Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston), Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk), and more.

However, others seem to be more bad than good like Vivian Alamain (Louise Sorel) and Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (William Utay). Of course, the biggest villain in Salem history has to be Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo). During his reign of terror, Stefano played with the lives of many, especially the Brady family, per Soap Central. He kidnapped, lied, brainwashed, and murdered many Salem citizens over the years, and The Pheonix always seemed to return from the dead for more. He also caused so much pain for characters such as Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) and John Black (Drake Hogestyn).

Of course, Stefano's evil ways appear to be genetic as many of his children have also performed some unspeakable acts over the decades. One of Stefano's most villainous family members has to be Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis), who caused so much drama during his time in Salem.

Andre got plastic surgery to look like his cousin Tony

Stefano DiMera first introduced Andre DiMera to Salem in 1983. Stefano brought his nephew Andre to town in hopes of helping him run his empire. When Stefano's son Tony didn't want to go along with Stefano's plans, Andre was persuaded to get plastic surgery in order to look identical to his cousin Tony. Stefano then had Tony imprisoned so that Andre could assume his identity. Andre and Stefano then began to wreak havoc upon Salem (via Soap Central). Andre went on to kill Trista Evans Bradford and Kelly Chase before moving on to Daisy Hawkins, whom he murdered while disguised as Roman Brady. This led to the real Roman being put in jail, per Soaps.

Eventually, Anna found Tony and figured out what was going on. However, Andre captured her and locked her away as well (via Soap Hub). Eventually, Roman was able to save Tony and Anna. Roman's hero act created chaos with Andre and the two men began to fight. However, during their duel, Andre slipped away and eventually fled Salem. Andre headed to a secret compound on Stefano's island where they began to devise their next devious plan.

Andre assumed Tony's identity for years

In 1984, Tony and Anna worked together to form a fashion company. The pair planned a photo shoot in Haiti and board an airplane with Eugene Bradford, Calliope Jones, Bo Brady, Hope Williams, Liz Chandler, Carlo Forenza, and Daphne DiMera. However, what they didn't know was that Andre had also secretly boarded the aircraft (via Soap Central). While in the air, Andre shocked the passengers when he revealed himself and then demanded that the pilot change course. The stress got to the pilot and "Days of Our Lives" viewers watched him die from a heart attack. This caused the plane to crash on a remote island. Tony's mother Daphne died in the crash, which led to a fight between Andre and Tony. During the scuffle, Andre was believed to have died in quicksand. However, Andre lived and returned to Stefano to begin plotting his revenge, per Soaps.

After Andre was presumed dead, Tony went back to Salem. In 1985, he opted to leave the fictional midwestern town but was intercepted by Stefano and Andre. The two kidnapped Tony and stranded him on a deserted island, where he sadly spent more than 20 years. With Tony no longer a threat, Andre was free to assume his identity yet again.

Andre and Kristen dealt with major relationship drama

"Days of Our Lives" viewers watched Andre return to Salem in 1993 as his identical cousin Tony. Posing as Tony, Andre was ready to marry his fiancée, Kristen Blake. However, Kristen was really in love with John Black. Before Andre and Kristen could marry, she left him at the altar so that she could help John find his missing daughter, Belle (via Soap Central).

Following the wedding drama, Andre decided to go into business with Billie Reed and bought her cosmetics company, Countess Wilhelmina. By 1994, Stefano was presumed dead with John shot at his car and it exploded. Kristen blamed John for her adopted father's death and later reunited with Andre, who was still posing as Tony. Kristen and Andre got married and it was later discovered that Stefano was still alive.

After the couple's wedding, many Salemites headed to Louisiana for a charity event. While there, a huge fire broke out and Andre ran into the fiery building to retrieve computer files that his father had kept. The house exploded and left him blind. Once Kristen discovered that Andre had known that Stefano was still alive and that he had tampered with her birth control she left him and began a relationship with John, per Soap Hub.

Andre was behind the Salem Stalker murders

Angry with John, Andre, posing as Tony, set up a trap to make it appear that his enemy had murdered him. However, his plan was later foiled when someone got a hold of his diary. John was cleared of the murder charges and everyone in Salem believed that he was gone. Seven years passed before Andre resurfaced in Salem still using Tony's identity. He came back to town to crash John and Marlena's anniversary party. Andre later had a hand in helping acclimate the Gemini Twins into Salem, and stunned viewers during the Salem Stalker storyline, per Soap Central.

In 2003, many beloved "Days of Our Lives" characters began to be murdered by a serial killer. Characters such as Alice Horton, Maggie Horton, Roman Brady, Abe Carver, Jack Deveraux, Caroline Brady, and more were all victims of the Salem Stalker, who was assumed to be Marlena. However, it was later revealed that the victims weren't dead, but that the DiMera family had orchestrated the entire thing and that all of the presumed dead Salemites were actually alive and well on Melaswen Island (via Soap Hub).

Andre as Tony eventually confessed to being the mastermind behind the scheme and the victims returned home to their loved ones.

Andre was killed by one of Abigail's split personalities

Eventually, Anna DiMera uncovered the truth about Tony's true identity and told the Brady family of her suspicions. Bo Brady confronted Tony, who then admitted that he had been Andre the entire time. Bo then managed to get Andre to tell him where the real Tony was before the villain fell off a rooftop. Andre later fled Salem again, but he wasn't done scheming, per Soap Central.

According to Soap Hub, Andre returned in 2015 when he demanded to be named the CEO of DiMera Enterprises. During his time in Salem he attempted to blackmail Aiden Jennings so that he would kill his girlfriend Hope Brady. He also brainwashed his brother Chad DiMera so that he would kill both Hope and Rafe. Andre also had a brief fling with Kate Roberts after his return to Salem. However, Andre's time in Salem was cut short when he was found murdered in an office.

It was later discovered that Abigail Deveraux-DiMera had killed Andre while suffering from a split personality disorder. Andre was considered dead for good this time around. However, he did make a quick reappearance as a spirit during the 2022 possession storyline (via Soap Opera Spy).

Andre DiMera has offered "Days of Our Lives" fans so much drama over the years, and he'll forever go down in history as one of the most devious villains on the NBC soap opera.
