The Hilarious Way Zoë Kravitz Got Into Character For Her Role In The Batman
DC Films' latest revival of Batman has become one of the most highly anticipated film events of the year. Robert Pattinson plays our antihero in "The Batman," while Zoë Kravitz puts her spin on Catwoman. Over the years many A-List stars have taken on the role of Selina Kyle, including Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, and most recently Anne Hathaway (via Insider). During an interview at the Television Critics Association's 2020 winter press tour, the 33-year-old explained her take on the femme fatale.
She explained, "Catwoman represents very feminine power — slightly more complicated, and softer, too. I like the idea that you can be soft, you can be gentle and still be very powerful and still be very dangerous." In addition to offering viewers insight into her perception of Selina, Kravitz stopped by the Tonight Show to explain how she prepared to bring her vision for the iconic character to life.
Zoë Kravitz is a method actor
During an appearance on the Tonight Show, Zoë Kravitz revealed her process for becoming Catwoman. During their conversation, Jimmy Fallon joked, "If I was cast as Catwoman ... I would study cats, I would drink milk out of a bowl," to which Kravitz replied, "I did that." She then doubled down on the surprising preparation tactic before adding, "I'm method, dude!" The "High Fidelity" star also shared that she spent a lot of time with cats while filming "The Batman". Kravitz even had "cat time" scheduled into her day so she could bond with feline co-stars.
She said, "They tried to get me to know the cats that were Selina's cats, and it's funny, they would say, 'Training at 1:30, and then rehearsal at this time, and then cat time,' and I was like, 'What's cat time?' And it was just putting me in a room with a bunch of cats, the cats that were going to be my cats. But the cats didn't care ... it did nothing." In an earlier interview with Empire, Kravitz also shared that she helped craft her version of Catwoman by viewing footage of the animals in the wild. She said, "We watched cats and lions and how they fight, and talked about what is actually possible when you're my size and Batman's so much stronger than me."
