  • Cynthia’s love for food writing – and Mediterranean cuisine – began in college when she and her classmates dined at a fine Middle Eastern restaurant and had to write a review on it.
  • After marrying a man who loves to cook in 2018, Cynthia took a new interest in food, food preparation, restaurants, cooking shows, and smart grocery shopping.
  • Unusual food and condiment combinations are what Cynthia is known for. Some of her favorites combinations include honey on pasta, jam on eggs, and popcorn in peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Cynthia joined the Mashed team in June 2022 with more than 10 years of professional writing experience. In addition to food, she has written on a number of topics, ranging from veterinary medicine/pets and dentistry to mental health and higher education. Her freelance experience prior to Mashed includes providing copy for niche magazines and a tutoring website. Before her writing career kicked off, Cynthia worked for a semester as a high school English teacher. Although she was grateful for the paid summer off, the overall experience made her realize how much she missed writing. She landed her first official writing job at a marketing agency the following year and has been writing and editing professionally ever since.

Cynthia earned a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Writing from Purdue University Northwest in Hammond, Indiana. She also received a secondary teaching license for English/Language Arts from the same university four years later.
