Trump & Musk's New Deal Signals They're Back To Being Partners In Crime (Second Breakup Incoming)

It appears as if President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk are headed towards hooking back up after a contentious split. Not even a week after Musk and Trump were spotted getting cozy together at Charlie Kirk's memorial service, a new deal has been struck between the two.

On September 25, 2025, the General Services Administration — the agency in charge of obtaining government technology services — announced that it had struck a deal with Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI, according to Fox News. For mere pennies, Grok 4 and Grok 4 Fast will now be part of the U.S. government, with xAI only charging 42 cents per agency. That seems like a great deal for the president to have secured, but could lead to trouble in paradise.

After Musk spent millions on Trump's presidential campaign, he jockeyed for position within the White House before overstaying his welcome. When Musk had to finally call it quits, with his special government employee status running out in May 2025, he and Trump had an iconic crashing out that led to the fall of their relationship. While it might seem serendipitous that Trump and Musk got the band back together under the guise of a lucrative deal, it does paint a reminder as to why the two were so disastrous together in the first place. There's room to argue that Musk possibly got jealous that Trump was trying to rebound with Mark Zuckerberg — and considering how Musk's involvement with the government ended last time, it would be wise for Trump to proceed with caution.

Elon Musk found his way back to Donald Trump, for now

Considering the sheer number of red flags in the initial friendship between Elon Musk and Donald Trump, having a second go at it feels ill-advised. However, Trump has made it a priority of his second term to make the U.S. a powerhouse in the field of AI, and Musk appears eager to please. In a statement to Fox News, Musk not only thanked the president but mentioned, "We look forward to continuing to work with President Trump and his team to rapidly deploy AI throughout the government." With the 18-month deal ending in 2027, it seems like Musk has once again found his way back into the administration, temporarily at least.

Much of the deal is shrouded in opaque tech speak, with talks of streamlined workflows and enhanced productivity thanks to Grok infiltrating the government. But even with the contract going into effect immediately, there are still unanswered questions about how Grok will assist the government, as well as how Musk will eventually make money off this too-good-to-be-true price tag. For now, it seems that Musk is just happy to be back in the good graces of the president, and with Trump having shown signs of hurt feelings in the wake of the breakup, the feeling might be mutual. Although this new agreement has Musk much more on the sidelines than when he was running the Department of Government Efficiency, so it's most likely only a matter of time before he starts creeping his way back into televised Oval Office press briefings to steal Trump's spotlight. Perhaps Musk will get on Trump's nerves even quicker this time around.
