Here's How Renovation, Inc. Differs From Renovation Island
Renovation Island was a major hit for HGTV, with the network admitting the show dropped at just the right time to target American audiences quarantined at home and desperate for something to watch (via HGTV). Considering it was set on the picturesque island of Andros in the Bahamas and focused on the renovation of a luxury holiday resort, the show also offered a vicarious glimpse at a vacation viewers could only dream of going on (though the featured resort, Caerula Mar Club, is now taking reservations if you do want to visit).
Bryan and Sarah Baeumler, the ambitious Canadian couple at the heart of the show, were instantly likable. Their sweet rapport, built on a foundation of near constant, but always good-natured, bickering made it easy to root for their success, even with everything working against them. With Renovation Island wrapped and their project complete, the time is ripe for HGTV to take us back to the beginning and tell the Baeumlers' story right from the start.
Renovation, Inc. is set in Canada, not the Bahamas
Deadline reports the show, a prequel of sorts, debuted on HGTV on Aug 30. It previously aired in the Baeumlers' native Canada back in 2016. Where Renovation Island followed the couple as they lived and worked in the Bahamas, Renovation, Inc. locates its drama firmly in the Great White North. The show follows Bryan and Sarah at their own renovation company, Baeumler Quality Construction, located in Ontario, where Bryan works as a licensed contractor and Sarah acts as project manager. Naturally, juggling projects and family problems is a constant battle for the couple.
"It's been so exciting for Sarah and me to share our adventures in The Bahamas with HGTV fans on Renovation Island," Bryan enthused. "Now, we're even more excited to go back in time and show you what we were up to before moving to the island and how it all got started."
Renovation, Inc. shows a less stressed-out version of the Baeumlers
As Meaww notes, although the focus is still on the Baeumlers and their often testy working relationship, the major difference between Renovation Island and Renovation, Inc. is that the couple isn't as highly strung this time around. They're dealing with difficult, demanding clients, of course, but working on several smaller projects is considerably less stressful than dealing with one massive renovation. Although it all worked out, Renovation Island showcased one of the most challenging times in their relationship.
The short trailer for their new show highlights a far more laid-back version of the couple, and even includes Bryan asking Sarah to come work with him. So, it's likely viewers will get to see an entirely different side to the Canadian couple this time around, as they focus on renovating one property at a time rather than an entire beach resort, and with all the amenities of a connected city at their fingertips no less.
