Trump's Karoline Leavitt & Kellyanne Conway Mixup Says It All About 'Mar-A-Lago Face'

Donald Trump's second term in office has given us many new things in terms of questionable aesthetics. There's the gold Oval Office, there's the refurbished and all marble Lincoln Bathroom, and there's been the ongoing trend of women in Trump's circle looking alike. It's become so noticeable that it's gotten its own name — Mar-a-Lago face, characterized by an emphasis on full lips and puffed cheeks that seem to have been achieved by plastic surgery. The end result is that the women start to look eerily similar, no matter what they looked like before or how old they are. One example of someone is seeming to be edging towards full Mar-a-Lago face is Kellyanne Conway, Trump's former senior adviser. Trump has even seemed to confuse Conway with Karoline Leavitt, his current press secretary, who does seem to have a particular affinity for lip filler. Is it because the women are starting to look alike? Could be.

At a White House event for Women's History Month in March 2026, Trump gave a shout-out to Conway, and a number of people think that he was actually talking about Leavitt. He referred to Conway as "fantastic. She's in there fighting." He continued: "A friend of mine said, 'That Kellyanne, I admire her the way she goes in and she screams at those people.'" He also clarified that "those people" meant the media.

And it's the reference to the media that makes it seem he was talking about Leavitt. Granted, Conway had been making some media appearances on Trump's behalf at the time. However, she hadn't been working for the administration, and her interviews were on more Trump-friendly networks, like Fox. So there's less of her screaming at the media the way that you can see Leavitt get riled up when speaking to, say, Kaitlan Collins from CNN.

Social media wasn't impressed with Donald Trump seeming to confuse Conway and Leavitt

Both Kellyanne Conway and Karoline Leavitt are blonde, and both women have tuned up faces, so we could theoretically see how the two of them could be confused for each other. But we'd think it would happen with someone who didn't know the women very well as compared to Donald Trump who employed both of them, at different times, for more than a year. And also in Trump's defense, it appears that Conway was actually in attendance at the White House event where he was speaking.

But netizens seem to think that Trump definitely meant Leavitt when he said Conway, and some found it to be another memory fumble to fuel the rumors that Trump's cognitive abilities are starting to decline. One person said on X: "What is he talking about? Does he mean Leavitt? Omg. He's cooked." Someone else joked, "Every presser Leavitt does from now on, journalists should call her 'Kellyanne'."

And others pointed out that if Joe Biden had done this as president, there would have been more of an outcry from Republicans. We're not exactly sure what caused the slip-up, or if Trump really was getting the audience to show some love to Conway. But the next day, Leavitt did share two photos of herself standing next to Trump on her Instagram. Perhaps just a coincidence, but it did serve as a reminder to him and/or the world of her place in the administration.
