Trump's Scathing Criticism Of Bruce Springsteen's 'Bad Plastic Surgeon' Is Beyond Ironic
The drama between Donald Trump and Bruce Springsteen stretches back years, and it's heating up even more with Springsteen's latest tour. The rock legend left plenty of space during his setlist to critique the president and his policies. "You want to talk about snowflakes? We have a president who can't handle the truth," Springsteen asserted on the tour's opening night on March 31 (via Variety). Springsteen has a knack for shattering Trump's ego, and it didn't take long for the president to hurl insults back. "Bad, and very boring singer, Bruce Springsteen, who looks like a dried up prune who has suffered greatly from the work of a really bad plastic surgeon," Trump ranted on Truth Social on April 2.
However, Trump's jabs didn't quite land. For starters, Springsteen is aging like fine wine, and there's no evidence that he's had any cosmetic procedures. In some cases, his complexion's even been singled out and praised for its smoothness. Second, there's no shortage of jarring plastic surgery transformations in Trump's MAGA circle, making it ironic that the president would go down this road. Trump's insults also lack originality, since he already hit out at Springsteen with the "prune" comment in May 2025.
Just like last year, the president's latest invective made him a target for more insults. "Bruce got color in his face without makeup and his body is fit," remarked one poster on X. "Have to love someone who looks like a dehydrated orange and who also wears a hair piece making fun of someone else's looks," observed another.
Springsteen's ego is unflappable
Since Springsteen has only performed one concert so far on his 20-show tour, he'll have plenty of opportunities to prick Donald Trump's ego. If Trump decides to respond on social media, his efforts will likely continue to flop. Besides risking more derisive comments, Trump won't make a dent in Springsteen's self-esteem. "I say what I want to say and then people get to say what they want," Springsteen explained to The Minnesota Star Tribune a few days before his tour kicked off. "I've been doing this 60 years — so you do develop a pretty thick skin, and it has served me well."
Even when he's not making a political statement, Springsteen's stage presence still likely gets under Trump's skin. While Trump's attempts to tout his good health often backfire, Springsteen is frequently referenced as a model for graceful aging, and he has a long track record of prioritizing exercise and healthy eating. The rocker's ability to continue to perform three-hour shows spotlights his stamina and energy. In contrast, Trump has a reputation for looking sleepy while in cabinet meetings. Since Springsteen is just three years younger than Trump, it makes any comparisons between them pretty glaring.
However, Springsteen's also aware it's wiser to retire some of his more gymnastic stage stunts. "The only thing that I notice as I've gotten older is that you have certain structural weaknesses in your body that arise, and you've got to manage your physical self so it can do the essential and important things," Springsteen informed The Guardian in 2017.
