- While at Syracuse University, Brandon co-founded an LGBTQ+ magazine called The Out Crowd. This was in 2007, and the magazine still exists today.
- He teaches courses on new media & society, new media & identity, media stereotyping, and gender & communication.
- He has been obsessed with pop culture since he was a kid, even once giving a classroom speech on award shows in seventh grade. It was not good.
Experience
Brandon has been writing professionally since 2007, beginning with an internship at the Syracuse Post-Standard. Toward the end of his Master's program, Brandon moved to New York City and interned at Metrosource magazine, Out Traveler magazine, and (very briefly!) Mediapost Communications. Once he returned back to his native Canada, he worked in a variety of roles while freelancing for outlets such as Monster Canada, Bell Media, Jobpostings magazine, Change.org, and more. In 2016, Brandon earned his Ph.D. and began working as a full-time professor, first in California and now in Massachusetts. He is currently a tenured associate professor who researches media content, media usage, and media's effects on individuals, relationships, and culture. He started writing for Static Media in June 2021 — first for Looper before transitioning to Nicki Swift — to engage with his lifetime love of celebrities, television, movies, and everything to do with Hollywood. He also regularly writes pieces for Celadon Books.
Education
Brandon has a Ph.D. in Communication, specializing in media, and an M.A. in Magazine, Newspaper, and Online Journalism. He also has a B.A. in Political Science that never gets used.
